MINNEAPOLIS — In the wake of the recent federal Operation Metro Surge and its aftermath, including a fatal police shooting by an ICE agent that has left much of Minneapolis on edge, local immigrant-owned restaurants are feeling the economic and emotional strain as residents stay home out of fear and uncertainty.

Tomme Beevas, owner of Pimento Jamaican Kitchen, and a group of Minneapolis restaurateurs are stepping forward with a hopeful message: this moment can be one of solidarity and community resilience.

They’re inviting the public to “vote with their wallets” to support immigrant-owned restaurants that are impacted by reduced foot traffic, winter weather, and widespread concern about public safety. Members of the community are encouraged to dine in, buy gift cards, and book catering as ways to keep these vital local businesses thriving.

Restaurants currently participating include: Pimento Jamaican Kitchen, Klassics Kitchen + Cocktails, North Star Deli and World Street Kitchen.
