The family of 24 year old Khalil Ahmad Azad is holding a vigil tonight at the site where his body was found last July.

Khalil was pulled over by Robbinsdale Police on July 2nd, 2022 and proceeded to flee on foot. Three days later Robbinsdale Police reported Azad was found face down in Crystal Lake, dead at the scene. His death was ruled an accidental drowning by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.

But newly released photos of Azad’s body have sparked outrage and horror. Images show a grossly disfigured face that appears to have been brutally beaten. Community members are comparing the images of Azad’s body to those of Emmitt Till.

Azad’s family members say he was attacked by dogs and beaten to death by the Robbinsdale Police Department and are requesting a new investigation. They are also demanding an outside investigation of the Hennepin County Examiner’s Office, as well the suspension of K9 units in the state of Minnesota.

Community members and BLM Minnesota are demanding all body cam footage related to Azad to be released. The vigil for Azad begins at 6 PM at Crystal Lake.
